British actor Freddie Jones, known from David Lynch “The Elephant Man,” died at the age of 91


Actor Toby Jones’ father, most recently appeared in the British series “Emmerdale”.

In 1980, he starred in Lynch’s first “The Elephant Man,” from which John Hurt was cast. He continued to collaborate with the director for “Dune” (1984), “Wild at Heart” (1990) and the “Room Room” miniseries.

After the news of Jones’ death, the filmmaker wrote on Twitter: “Dear friends, I loved, loved, loved Freddie Jones. God, how long will it feel? ”

Born in Dresden, Stock-on-Trent, Jones debuted on the London scene with the Royal Shakespeare Company in “Afore Night Come” in 1962. Shortly after, he starred in “The Lower Depths” after Maxim Gorky, The Marat / Sade “of Peter Brook in 1964 before he began his television career in 1968.

He starred in “Alice and the Looking Glass” (1973), “Pennies From Heaven” and “Ghosts of Motley Hall” (1976-78) and “Inspector Morse” among others.

Freddie Jones was married to Jennie Hesslewood, with whom he had three sons: Rupert, director, Toby and Casper, actors.
