Due to a record number of blockbusters exceeding $ 1 billion, Disney became the first studio in history to reach $ 10 billion at the box office in a single year.

The studio earned $ 3.28 billion in North America and $ 6.7 billion in the rest of the world – the total reached $ 9.98 billion and is expected to exceed $ 10 billion tomorrow. It dropped its record in 2016 ($ 7.6 billion) since July, following the huge success of the Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King productions.

It should be noted that the performance was reached just before the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will hit theaters on December 20. Not included in the total amount calculated were the revenues of Le Mans ’66 and Dark Phoenix, productions of 20th Century Fox (with them, the total would reach $ 11.9 billion).

Six of the 10 titles with the highest-grossing at the global box office are in the Disney portfolio so far. First on the list is Avengers: Endgame – which is also the highest-grossing movie of $ 2.79 billion in history – followed by The Lion King (1.6 billion), Captain Marvel (1.2 billion), Toy Story 4 (1.07 billion), Aladdin (1.05 billion) and Frozen II ($ 920 million).
