Dwayne Johnson will join the DC Cinematic Universe in Black Adam, a film that has long been his focus and will turn him into an anti-hero, one of Shazam’s opponents.

The star revealed on his Instagram account that the date on which the film will be released – December 22, 2021 – was set and published a concept image showing him in the superhero costume, made by graphic artists Jim Lee and Boss Logic.

“I am honored to be transformed into him. Black Adam is endowed with magic, he has powers like Superman. The difference is that they do not conform to the rules or do not fit the standards. He is a rebel, a superhero like no other, who will always do what is good for people – but in his own way, ”he noted alongside the image.

Created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck, Black Adam first appeared in The Marvel Family cartoons, published by Fawcett Comics. His first description links him to Ancient Egypt and to the sorcerer Shazam; but his powers do not come from Shazam but from six Egyptian deities (Shu, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aton, and Mehen).

A big-screen confrontation between Shazam and Black Adam is also expected, but it looks like it will only take place in the third part of the hero’s adventures played by Zachary Levi. Shazam 2 will start shooting in the summer of 2020, and the release could take place in the latter part of 2021 (the villain will be Master Mind).

The film Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Shallows, Unknown) following a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel (Rampage).
