Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem for “No Country for Old Men,” is in talks for the role of King Triton in Disney’s “Little Mermaid” live-action remake. Halle Bailey will be Ariel in the film, and this will be the first lead in a feature film for the 19-year-old singer known as part of the R & B Chloe x Halle duo.

Melissa McCarthy will be Ursula Witch, and Harry Styles is in talks about Prince Eric’s role.

“The Little Mermaid” will be directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee.

The film will include pieces from the animated film released in 1989 and new compositions by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”). The latter will also be a producer alongside Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca.

When “The Little Mermaid” was released in cinemas 30 years ago, it was a successful and decisive decision in Disney’s renaissance.

Bardem recently starred in “Todos lo Saben” (2018) with his wife, Penélope Cruz, and will be seen in “Dune,” alongside Timothy Chalamet and Josh Brolin.
