After many years of trying to bring Minecraft to the screen, the developer of the famous video game, Mojang, announced that the film will be released on March 4, 2022.
We will see in Minecraft “the story of a teenager and his unusual group of adventurers,” writes Mojang. “After the evil Ender Dragon implements his destructive plan, they have to save their beautiful and” square “world Overlord,” the synopsis says.
The movie directed by Warner Bros. will be directed by Peter Sollet (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist). Prior to Solett, two other dire directors were “adventurous” at the helm of live action: Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
In November 2016, Steve Carell was announced in the distribution of the film, but the actor had to abandon production due to overlays in his work schedule.
“We want to make this movie for you in the way we did the game,” noted Mojang. “We’ve inspired a lot of things, but not as incredible as those created in the Minecraft community every day,” the announcement says.
Minecraft currently has more than 100 million registered users (Fortnite greatly exceeded) and is one of the best-selling games on iOS, Android and Xbox. He has generated a lot of adaptations and licensed products, from books, figurines and spin-off games. Telltale Games, in partnership with Mojang, launched the Minecraft point-and-click adventure game in 2015: Story Mode, and Microsoft, who bought Minecraft in 2014, announced in 2019 a dungeon-crawler in his style Diablo, called Minecraft Dungeons.
