Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann has chosen the actress to play Priscilla Presley in the biographical film about the rock ‘n roll legend. The still-untitled film, which will focus on the early years of Elvis Presley’s life and career, will play Priscilla on Olivia DeJonge.
The 21-year-old Australian actress will be starring alongside Austin Butler (Elvis) and Tom Hanks (Tom Parker’s lead manager). His most notable roles are in the Netflix series The Society and in The Visit, the 2015 horror of M. Night Shyamalan.
“Olivia is able to recapture the depth and special presence that made Priscilla Presley a star overnight,” Luhrmann said.
Elvis met Priscilla when she was 14, in the late 1950s, while still active in the United States Army. They married after seven and a half years – in 1967. They had a daughter together, Lisa Marie, but their relationship broke up just a few years ago, and in 1973, they divorced.
Luhrmann’s film, however, will focus more on his relationship with his manager and the road to success. The filmmaker also worked on the screenplay with Craig Pearce. The launch is scheduled for October 1, 2021.
