After the events in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the creatures of the four fundamental elements (earth, air, water, and fire) are coming back to power, questioning the existence of mankind. More pushed from behind, Peter has to assume the role of a superhero. Allied is Quentin Beck / Mysterio (performed by Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar nominee), a superhero of a different size, with an unprecedented costume and a monster chef to annihilate evil creatures. But the fight is fierce, the stake – the huge, and the consequences, hard to imagine. The time has come for Spider-Man, the superhuman from neighbors, to prove he has matured and can take on the immense responsibility that his mentor, Tony Stark, alias Iron Man, has left behind.
Watts says he wanted to bring a cartoon character on the screen to be unprecedented for the audience in the cinemas. “Mysterio is a fascinating comic bastard who will be transformed into a hero here, and this can be seen for the first time. The idea of associating Spider-Man, Mysterio, and Nick Fury to fight together against global threats seemed very interesting to us. ”
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal, nominated for the Oscar, interprets Mysterio, which comes from a different dimension, from a universe parallel to ours. It was essential that we bring in this role an actor with Jake’s intelligence, to deepen the character, “says Pascal. “Although we talked a lot about Mysterio, it was only after Jake’s involvement that we were able to give the character another level of humanism and humor. There is always the desire to pop the movies we make with loved ones, and Jake is a good example of an actor who enriches his character to life. ”
Watts adds, “I needed someone to easily enter a superhero and eventually be the next Avenger leader. We knew that Jake could take such a large responsibility … ”
“I wanted to create a character you should not forget,” says Gyllenhaal. “Beck has all the features an actor loves.”
In the style of a true superhero, Mysterio not only wants, but he is also even anxious to liquidate the creatures of the four elements. “Beck insists that they are his responsibility,” says Gyllenhaal.
Gyllenhaal was also surprised by the relationship between Peter and Beck, who is not a mentor like Stark, but a friend who understands Peter. However, Mysterio causes him to accept the challenge that awaits him. “Beck understands why Peter is reluctant but explains that this task, no matter what the dangers it implies, necessarily belongs to a Super Hero,” he says.
Watts adds that Beck had to be perceived as a kind of friend, Peter’s “uncle loved”. “Beck, who feels like a foreigner among strangers, sees Peter as a potential ally or teammate. At the same time, Beck realizes that Peter is a mindless adolescent who would prefer a vacation to save mankind. “
