In an interview with The Independent, director Danny Boyle has revealed that a series inspired by The Beach, his 2000 film, is in preparation. Production will be performed by actress, screenwriter, and director Amy Seimetz (one of the creators of The Girlfriend Experience).
“The Beach could come back. Seimetz started off the film and thought of a sort of prequel for television. It is the same protagonist, but the action is taking place today; it’s about a 20-year difference, and yes, it’s a little bit overwhelming. You really get intrigued when you find out what it is about. I have read the first two scenarios. I do not know if they will have the courage to do it at FX, but you never know, “the filmmaker said.
It will be interesting to see what scriptural artifice Seimetz thought about imagining events prior to the action in the film and bringing them into modern times, but the idea even has the gift of stirring up the curiosity of the audience.
The film with Leonardo DiCaprio in the central role (based on Alex Garland’s novel of the same name) follows the adventures of Richard, an American lady with his backpack in search of adventure. Discover in Thailand a tropical, retreated and mysterious paradise that gives him the strong feelings he is looking for, but things do not work for the better.
Boyle spoke in his interview about a possible third 28 Days Later, for which he will collaborate again with Alex Garland, who also dealt with the production story of 2002 with Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris.
