On Friday, July 19, fans in Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 were the first to see the images of the long-awaited The Witcher series when the protagonist Henry Cavill presented the teaser trailer for those in the room. Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, Mom) moderated the panel of Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (showrunner) and actors from the Cavill (Geralt of Rivia) distribution, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri).
Witcher, the story surrounding the fantastic Geralt character in the Riviera, is approaching Netflix’s premiere, so launching the San Diego Comic-Con trailer was a must. From the trailer, we see that the story is bloody, with monsters, witches, sword fighting, and former Superman Henry Cavill as Geralt.
The series will premiere at the end of the year, and it’s about the characters Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri. Producer Lauren Hissrich has recently added some details to EntertainmentWeekly, telling supernatural beings and other forms of magic that distinguish The Witcher from other genre productions.
“Geralt is a monster hunter from the beginning, and we’ve been discussing how to show these monsters and how to fight them,” she explains. “I think the audience will be impressed by how many monsters we have been able to conceive, and how well they integrate them into the story. It seems clear that stories with monsters have become real allegories of what is happening now in the world at the political level … ”
The producer also reports that the series is not a derivative of Projekt Red, but is inspired by the books of author Andrzej Sapkowski, who was the production consultant.
Based on the best-selling book series, The Witcher is an epic story about fate and family.
