After years of delays and problems with distribution and development, Sony Pictures has announced not only the relentless release date of the Uncharted movie but also the actor chosen as a protagonist.
Action and adventure film based on Naughty Dog’s video game series will benefit from a “holiday” launch, writes TheHollywoodReporter.com. Uncharted, with Tom Holland (Avengers, Spider-Man: Homecoming) as a younger version of the charismatic and treasure-seeking rebellion, will enter American cinemas on December 18, 2020.
This is when Steven Spielberg is releasing the remake of West Side Story (with Ansel Elgort in the central role) and Eddie Murphy’s return to Coming to America’s sequel (not yet titled).
Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker will deal with Uncharted’s script. Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) was elected director.
An uncharted short movie by fans, with Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity, Castle) in a central role, was released in 2018 on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. It reached over 2 million views in just two days and was extremely well received by critics. Online publications and fans have even started online campaigns, asking streaming platforms (especially Netflix) to turn the short film into a movie or a series.
