MGM studio confirmed the production of Tomb Raider 2. Ben Wheatley, known for movies like Free Fire, Kill List, and High-Rise, was nominated for the sequel, and Amy Jump (who worked with Wheatley on Free Fire) will handle the scenario. According to deadline.com, the movie now has a release date – March 19, 2021.

Details have not yet been revealed about the continuation story, which will bring Alicia Vikander back on the big screen, in the role of Lara Croft. After the film released in 2018 has aroused mixed reactions, both in the critics’ camp and in the public, here are the ones from MGM and Warner Bros. they decided to change the entire production team and probably come up with a new approach to the heroine’s adventures.

Even if the box office receipts for the 2018 movie have barely reached the required figure for the film to be considered a failure in this regard (nearly $ 275 million internationally, with a production budget of between $ 90 and $ 100 million), was enough for the filmmakers to go ahead with a sequel.

The Tomb Raider video game series was launched in 1990. The central heroine, Lara Croft, soon to become a symbol of the gaming industry, was also played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie (in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, from 2001, and Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, 2003). The version of Lara Croft played by Vikander was inspired by the reboot of the game series, launched in 2013, which focuses on the adventurer’s early years.
